Early Year Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Our Early Years Department represents a stepping stone into a structured learning environment – one that encourages imagination, curiosity, and independence. Here, our youngest learners begin developing the foundational skills they need to become confident, respectful, and creative thinkers.
At Edison International Academy, Aspire, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework, which is built around seven interconnected Areas of Learning:
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Preschool: A Child-Centred Beginning

Our Preschool classrooms welcome children from the age of three into a balanced, stimulating, and child-centred environment. With the support of dedicated and experienced teachers, children explore the world around them through hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity and build essential early learning skills.

Reception: Building Strong Foundations

In Reception, children build on their Preschool learning by developing early reading and writing skills and extending their understanding through a wide range of engaging topics. Daily ‘circle time’ provides opportunities for children to share ideas, express opinions, and listen respectfully to their peers – strengthening communication, confidence, and collaboration.
Throughout the Early Years, children are assessed against age-appropriate learning goals to ensure they are progressing confidently and receiving the guidance they need.

Arabic & Islamic Studies

Arabic and Islamic Studies form an integral part of our Early Years curriculum in both Preschool and Reception. For our Qatari students, this fosters a strong sense of identity, belonging, and cultural pride. For our expatriate students, it nurtures appreciation and respect for Qatar’s heritage, values, and traditions.

Learning Through Experience

Learning in the Early Years is enriched with a variety of themed activity days that make school exciting and meaningful. Children enjoy Colour Days, Show & Tell sessions, craft activities, and special celebrations. We also host fun events that help broaden children’s understanding of the world around them and build joyful memories.

Working in Partnership With Parents

We believe that strong partnerships with parents are essential to a child’s success. Families are encouraged to contribute ideas, participate in classroom activities, and support special events. Their involvement not only strengthens the home – school connection but also enriches children’s learning experiences in meaningful ways.
